Impact of Industrial Clusters on Resilience of China’s Apparel Exports and Spatial Spillover Effects

Abstract: Industrial clusters are a prominent feature of China’s garment manufacturing sector, serving as the primary development model. With the advancement of globalization, the export structure and its impact on industrial resilience have become key research areas. This study uses export data of Chinese apparel products to investigate how industry clustering affects export resilience from the demand side. The empirical results show that industrial clustering negatively impacts short-term apparel export resilience, a conclusion supported by multiple robustness tests. Further analysis with
the spatial Durbin model reveals that industrial clusters have a complex influence within regional economic development. While these clusters inhibit local short-term apparel export resilience, they enhance it in neighboring regions. Based on these findings, the government should implement real-time regulation, establish a regional risk-sharing mechanism, and continue promoting regional economic integration to mitigate external shock risks in the new era.
