The Mechanism and Eff ects of Digital Economy Promoting Carbon Emission Reduction
摘要: 数字化技术的发展是减少我国温室气体排放量的关键。本文基于2011—2020年省级面板数据,运用中介效应模型,建立“数字经济-产业结构升级-碳排放”的理论分析框架,揭示这三个因素之间的相互作用机制。研究发现:数字经济发展能够显著降低地区碳排放水平;产业结构升级是数字经济促进碳减排效率提升的重要传导渠道;就异质性分析而言,我国东部地区以及在人力资本和科技财政投入方面具备优势的区域,数字经济在碳减排方面具有显著效果。据此,本文认为数字经济时代应依托产业结构升级的碳减排优势,促进新兴技术和业态的广泛应用和蓬勃发展,充分发挥数字经济的降碳效应。
Abstract: The development of digital technologies is key to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in China. Based on the provincial panel data from 2011 to 2020, this paper uses the mediating eff ect model to establish a theoretical analysis framework of “digital economy-industrial structure upgrading-carbon emission”, revealing the interaction mechanism among these three factors. The study indicates that the development of digital economy can signifi cantly reduce regional carbon emissions; industrial structure upgrading is an important transmission channel for the digital economy to promote the efficiency of carbon emission reduction; based on heterogeneity analyses, the eastern region of China and regions with advantages in human capital and technological fi scal input demonstrate signifi cant eff ects of the digital economy on carbon emission reduction. Therefore, this paper believes that in the era of the digital economy, it is necessary to leverage the carbon reduction advantages of industrial structure upgrading, promote the widespread application and vigorous development of emerging technologies and formats, and fully exploit the carbon reduction eff ect of the digital economy.
