从斯特劳森与罗素的论争看摹状词理论

摘要: 斯特劳森与罗素在摹状词理论上的分歧主要表现在意义问题、句法问题和专名问题三个方面，其中句法方面的分歧是决定性的。本文通过分析表明，斯特劳森基于日常语言的句法对摹状词理论所作的批评在很大的程度上是不合适的。摹状词理论强调的是一阶逻辑语言的句法，日常语言的句法是它批判的对象。通过一阶逻辑语言的句法理论，摹状词理论解决了某些因日常语言句法的混乱而引起的问题，但它的重要性不在于对这些问题的解决，而在于在哲学研究中对一阶逻辑语言的句法分析方法的倡导与示范性应用。

Abstract: As the theory of descriptions is concerned, Strawson’s and Russell’s opinions were divided on meaning, syntax and proper name. Among the three respects above, syntax is determinant. This article argues that Strawson’s criticism of the theory of descriptions, based upon the syntax of ordinary language, is not appropriate to a great extent. What the theory of descriptions emphasized is the syntax of first-order logical language, and what it criticized is the syntax of ordinary language. Based upon the syntax of first-order logical language, the theory of descriptions solved some problems caused by the syntax of ordinary language, but its significance lies not in its solution of those problems but in its advocacy and application of the analytic method of first-order logic in philosophical researches.
