明辨语法性质 详察引申路径 审视推演方式

摘要: 极少有辞书就“汗马”、“汗马之劳”原义、转义及其引申路径等，作出完全准确的解释和呈示。实际上，“汗马”，属动宾结构，原义为因驱马奔驰而使马出汗，转义依次为：劳苦征战；战功。“汗马之劳”原义为“征战的劳苦”，转义依次为：战功；功劳。两个词语从原义到转义、从转义到再生转义的推演方式均为借代。

Abstract: Few dictionaries have exactly interpreted and presented the words “sweating horses” and “arduous work of sweating horses” in terms of their original meanings, transferred meanings and derivation paths. In fact, the word “sweating horses” is composed of a verb and its object in Chinese. Originally, it meant riding a horse to make it sweat, but has been transferred successively to represent an arduous battle and glory in battle. “Arduous work of sweating horses” with the original meaning of “arduous work in battle” has been given the transferred meanings of glory in battle and contributions in sequence. From an original meaning to a transferred meaning and then a further transferred meaning, both of the words have evolved by means of metonymy.
