A study of the effect of uncertainty differences on users' surrogate information search behaviour from an emotional perspective
摘要: [目的/意义]随着生成式人工智能(Generative AI)的兴起,其作为社会行动者的角色正在重塑信息获取过程。在以人为中介的替代信息搜寻无法充分满足用户需求,由此产生的不确定性差异背景下,基于积极情绪和消极情绪的视角,探究用户转向使用生成式AI作为新型替代信息搜寻中介的动因,对于促进该技术的进一步发展具有显著意义。[方法/过程]基于动机信息管理理论构建研究模型,共提出13个研究假设,采用问卷调查法、关键事件技术法收集数据。通过偏最小二乘的结构方程模型(PLS-SEM)进行相关的模型计算。[结果/结论]本研究先是揭示了不确定性差异与个体情绪之间的相关性,即不确定性差异的增加提升个体消极情绪,并相应地降低积极情绪。其次,积极情绪正向预测效能和预期结果,而消极情绪则相反。效能与预期结果之间存在显著的正相关关系。同时效能显著正向影响人-机替代搜寻行为,情绪通过效能间接影响该行为。信息-任务低匹配虽对情绪状态影响不显著,但正向促进了人-机替代搜寻行为。本研究的发现为理解被替代者在搜寻模式转变过程中的内在机制提供了新的视角和理论支撑。
Abstract: [Purpose/Significance]With the rise of Generative AI (GAI), its role as a social actor is reshaping the information access process. In the context of the uncertainty discrepancy arising from the inability of human-mediated surrogate information search to adequately meet users‘ needs, exploring the motivations for users’ shift towards the use of Generative AI as a new type of surrogate information-seeking mediator based on the perspectives of positive and negative emotions is of significant importance in promoting the further development of this technology.[Methods/Process]The research model was constructed based on the theory of motivational information management, with a total of 13 research hypotheses, and data were collected using the questionnaire method and the critical incident technique. Relevant model calculations were carried out by partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM).[Results/Conclusions]The present study firstly reveals the correlation between uncertainty variance and individual mood, i.e., an increase in uncertainty variance elevates individual negative mood and correspondingly decreases positive mood. Second, positive mood positively predicted efficacy and expected outcomes, whereas the opposite was true for negative mood. There was a significant positive correlation between efficacy and expected outcomes. Meanwhile, efficacy significantly and positively influenced human-machine surrogate search behaviour, and emotion indirectly influenced this behaviour through efficacy. Information-task low matching positively facilitated person-machine surrogate search behaviour although it did not significantly affect emotional state. The findings of this study provide new perspectives and theoretical support for the understanding of the internal mechanism of substitutes in the process of search pattern change.
