The Tension between Confucian Tradition and Modernity: The Cultural Roots of the Educational Philosophy of Hengshui High School

摘要: 本研究聚焦衡水中学教育理念,深入剖析其背后蕴含的儒家传统与现代性张力。儒家传统中的诸如"学而优则任""尊师重道"等理念,在衡水中学严格的教学管理、高度重视学业成绩的模式中有着深刻体现。然而,现代性所倡导的个性发展、多元评价等观念,又与衡水中学高度统一的教育模式形成鲜明对比。通过对衡水中学教育理念文化根源的探究,揭示儒家传统在当代教育实践中的延续与变革,以及现代性诉求对传统教育理念的冲击,旨在为理解当下教育现象、推动教育理念的优化与融合提供新的视角。

Abstract: This study focuses on the educational philosophy of Hengshui High School and delves deep into the tension between Confucian tradition and modernity underlying it. Concepts within the Confucian tradition, such as "one who excels in learning can pursue an official career" and "respect teachers and honor the way of learning", are profoundly manifested in Hengshui High School’s strict teaching management and its strong emphasis on academic performance. However, the concepts advocated by modernity, such as individualized development and multiple - dimensional evaluation, stand in sharp contrast to the highly unified educational model of Hengshui High School. By exploring the cultural roots of the educational philosophy of Hengshui High School, this study reveals the continuation and transformation of Confucian tradition in contemporary educational practice, as well as the impact of modern - day demands on traditional educational concepts. It aims to offer a new perspective for understanding current educational phenomena and promoting the optimization and integration of educational concepts.
