中国的拉丁语墓碑及其文化意义——以郑玛诺为例

摘要: 最早接触欧洲文化和文学的中国人是一些16世纪末以来在海外留学的天主教人士，其中有部分人到澳门、日本或菲律宾留学。最早的、信息比较多的去欧洲的中国留学生是中国广东香山人郑玛诺，他于1645年从澳门到欧洲，1668年回国，1673年在北京去世。本文首先简单描述郑玛诺以前的中国留学生，此后叙述郑玛诺神父的一生，即他从澳门到欧洲的长期旅程，他在意大利和葡萄牙的学习过程以及他从葡萄牙经过印度回中国的路。郑玛诺也是第一位中国籍耶稣会神父。他在北京墓碑上的碑文是用拉丁语和汉语写的，为了解其生平提供了一些资料，而这个重要的文物于2018年6月在北京被重新发现。

Abstract: The earliest Chinese who came in deeper contact with European culture and literature were some Catholic students who went overseas for studies since the late 16th century. Some of them learned in Macau, others in Japan and the Philippines.  The first Chinese student to reach Europe, about whom somewhat more detailed information is available, was Zheng Manuo from Xiangshan, Guangdong Province. He left from Macao for Europe in 1645, returned to China in 1668 and died in Beijing in 1673. The present study enlists a number of Chinese overseas students before Zheng Manuo and then tells the story of the life of Zheng Manuo. Thus it is a description of his long journey from Macau to Europe, his studies in Italy and Portugal, and his journey back to China via India. Fr. Zheng, also the first Chinese Jesuit priest, died in Beijing, and his tombstone, written in Latin and Chinese provides some details about his life. This important monument was rediscovered in Beijing in June 2018.
